Speedweek '98 Continued

Variscari tilt-wing triscaph5 October; day three.Windiest to date, the course opens in the morning, at 11:00. Winds fairly steady, averaging nearly 14 knots late morning and early afternoon. Picking up around 14:00 with several solid gusts--to 27 kts in the late afternoon (again, wind plots here). A great day for the timing crew as well, with over 210 runs, total.

This day, Stacey Vass extends his top speed to 27.23, after a total of 20+ runs. Second is Tony Moris (#11), with 26.01. Mike Pierce and James Paine round out the top 4 this day. Fastest craft (non-sailboard) is Bernard Cunin in Loisirs 3000 (#584, below), with 22.59 kts, giving Bernard fifth place for the day. Also showing very good runs in these near-perfect experimental conditions are Torix Bennett on Sea Spider, at 19.04 kts, and Alan Blundell, aboard Variscari (#18. at left). Alan's best run for the day is 16.98 kts.
