Twin-winged "Butterfly" leaving the beach. With a bit of luck, we'll
publish a synopsis on this boat soon. Watch this space!

Speedweek '98 in Progress!

Here's how it is shaping up, to date:

Sunday, 3 October; first day. Winds are generally light, with the strongest bits --just over 10 kts--bracketing the lunchtime closure of the course (Mr. Murphy's attending, as ever!). Lots of sorting out boats and boards, with a total of some 37 runs in, James Paine (sail #1) with far and away the most runs in for the day, shows the fastest run recorded, at 13.58 kts. Chris Evans (#33) and Bob Quinton (#2) and Torix Bennett (#101) come 2nd-4th for the day.

Here are the computer readouts for all runs on 3 October. And here is the wind plot, for the day.

Seaspider planing triscaphMonday, 4 October. The competitors were up and running on time, the officials the same. A bit more wind today; average windspeed about 11 kts (versus 7, yesterday), with the strongest gusts at 17. Lots of runs today, showing some 154 total runs logged (Well done, timing group!)

Fastest for the day was the sailboarder Stacey Vass (#47, photo below), logging a highest of 23.77, in 19 runs. Second was M. Leborgne (#112) at 21.40, #5 (sorry, the name is missing), with 20.80, and an amazing showing from Torix Bennett on Sea Spider (at left), with a high of 20.80 kts after 19 runs for the day. This is an amazing feat for an experimental boat, showing some 1.3--1.5 times windspeed, sustained. Well done!

Once again, here are the complete computer readouts. And the hour-by-hour wind plot for the day.
